Take a moment to experience award winning and certified organic table and fortified wines.
Eric and Jenny Semmler are the creators and custodians of the renowned 919 wines, which was established in 2005 and today holds certified organic status for their Glossop and Loxton vineyard and range of high quality wines. 919 Wines specialise in low water and organic viticulture principles, both in the vineyard and in the winery, and their approach produces high quality wines that reflect the Riverland soil, climate and the grape varieties.
With a range that includes bold and deep reds including the peppery Durif, Tempranillo, Sangiovese, Touriga Nacional and Shiraz to the lighter and softer white varieties of Petit Manseng, Chardonnay, and Vermentino there is something here for every palate to savour. For those who enjoy fortified wines, 919 wines produce an exceptional range, with their Pale Dry Apera awarded the Wine of the Year in the Adelaide Review Hot 100 (2011). Their Tawny Port, Classic Muscat and Topaque are also well worth a taste with one of their scrumptious cheese and greens platters if you have the time.
With over 40 years’ experience between them Jenny now focuses her efforts into sales and marketing with Eric now the chief winemaker, with a number of awards under his belt. Eric and Jenny find their inspiration for their boutique wines from the Riverland landscape, which provides the perfect climate for consistent grape yields, quality and flavour profile. This passion and skill transforms grapes into liquid delights that have tantalised taste buds the world over, with 919 wines receiving accolades throughout Australia and internationally.
Grape crops are hand-picked from January through April when varieties are at their peak before they are processed at the winery in Glossop. Made of straw bale construction the building provides the perfect climate for production, cellar storage and is also the location of their popular cellar door sales (open Wednesday through Sunday, plus public holidays). We encourage visitors to check out the vineyard and winery in Glossop, and if you can check out the website for their next Wine and Cheese pairing event.
